The reduction in emissions may have been a temporary success, and even the use of CO2 as a fertilizer may not be a permanent solution. To put the problem in perspective, a recent news report in the Washington Post showed the US government has been ordered by a federal court to determine the impacts of using CO2 as a fertilizer on the agriculture industry. The story referenced an order from a federal court that allows the US government to halt the use of CO2 as a fertilizer until a court-appointed expert can review the data, including evidence of the impacts of the technology and any potential consequences of applying such technology to US crops. The lawsuit is in response to a federal appeals court ruling last year that the Environmental Protection Agency was violating the Clean Air Act by using a similar technology to release CO2
